What to post on facebook

Social media provides businesses with yet another way to communicate with potential customers. And, like all other forms of communication, there are guidelines for posting content on social networks. Here are some tips to keep in mind while posting.

Make sure your posts don’t come across as a marketing pitch.

The last thing a person wants to see on a social networking site is an advertising campaign. Don’t bombard your audience with marketing pitches. Instead, let your audience get to know the personal side of your business. View social media as a way to build a rapport with your targeted audience.

Social networks are a way to show others the culture and personal side of your organization
Remember, social media is all about the “social” aspect of your business. Show your audience that your company consists of real people with real personalities. Do you have a favorite inspirational quote? Go ahead and share it with your social media family.

Show others that you are an expert in your field

Post content that shows your expertise in your product. Become the go-to person for information and questions about the service or product that you offer.

Show others the “fun” side of your organization
Your audience consists of real people with senses of humor. Appeal to them with humorous posts. But, be careful and avoid posts that might offend or insult.

Build a connection with your audience
Incorporate all of these tips to build brand loyalty with your potential customers. Interact with your audience and keep them coming back for more.

Now that you know how and why you should post on social media sites. Here are some tips for what you should post (try to incorporate at least 3 of 7 the characteristics described below in each post).
Relevancy
You should almost always post content that is relevant to the product or service that you are selling. For example, if you are a dentist, you might post a tip about how often to replace a toothbrush while you would avoid posting about weight loss.

Fun or Humorous
This tip comes with a warning. Being funny on social media is tricky and could backfire if you are not careful. The last thing you want to do is insult your audience. Think twice before you post and if it is even a little bit questionable, don’t post it.

Topical or Current

Let your social media posts show your audience that you are aware of current events and advances in your field.

Personal
Show your audience that your company is being run by real people just like them. If you are a dentist, share a funny story that happened while helping your kid brush his teeth before bed. Let your audience get to know the personal side of your company.

Interesting
You are trying to attract people to your business. Keep your posts interesting and try to avoid sounding dry and boring.

Interactive
Social media is a two way street and you should interact with your audience. Ask for their opinions on certain matters. Use polls as a fun way to get you fans to interact and state their views. Encourage them to share their experiences, photos and videos.

Promotional

This tip also comes with a warning. Go ahead and promote a new service, campaign or event that your company is offering or hosting. But, do it sparingly and don’t bombard your audience with marketing pitches. Once you have built up fans and some loyalty (which can be seen by how interactive your fans are) then you can begin to post promotions. Giveaways, sweepstakes and competitions are other good ways to promote new services and products.

Social media is one of many different ways to interact with potential customers. The benefits of the social media approach in particular, are that you can have fun with it. Just be yourself and let the posting begin!
